The National Educators’ Institute (NEI) has four areas of interest called Tiers. Each NEI Tier has a Professional Learning Team (PLT) which may consist of volunteer educators, counsellors, and community members. Up to two Executive Council Associates work within the Professional Learning Teams, as support. The Professional Learning Teams partner with the Executive Director to design:
-
- Frameworks
- Professional learning opportunities
- Tier networking events
- Local resources and research
Time Considerations
Professional Learning Teams generally meet bi-weekly. This may accelerate, for a period, to accommodate an upcoming event or completion of a task. PLT members decide when this is necessary. There are also instances when PLT members must complete readings or tasks to support actioned items of previous meetings.
An exciting part of being a NEI professional learning team member, is the opportunity to learn whilst developing learning for others. PLT members voluntarily engage in learning that support the embraced approaches of the National Educators’ Institute and add to their professional repertoire.

It is very important for prospective mentors to identify what motivates them to mentor. While Black men want to give time, knowledge, and skills to help young black males, the NEI understands that reciprocal benefits matter. When we know what potential mentors value, it helps us to craft an experience that is beneficial to mentees and mentors. Click here to consider and share your mentoring motivations.
